Matthew Ehrmann is a Santa Monica–based artist and photographer whose work is inspired by the spirit of the American West. Through both painting and photography, he explores abandoned motels, forgotten small towns, roadside diners, vintage signage, neon lights, and the fading beauty of roadside culture along Route 66 and beyond. Color plays a central role in his work, capturing both the nostalgia and energy of these disappearing places while blending documentary storytelling with a bold, graphic style that celebrates the romance of the open road. Fascinated by the textures, typography, and atmosphere of the American landscape, Ehrmann strives to preserve the spirit of places that continue to inspire curiosity and exploration. His work has been exhibited in galleries, hotels, and retail spaces in Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Portland, Seattle, and Japan, and his photographs have been featured on Bravo television series including Flipping Out, Interior Therapy with Jeff Lewis, and Top Design.
